Waldorf, Maryland – The Somerset Patriots (28-30, 70-58) tied a season-high with 17 hits in a 10-3 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (24-35, 63-66) Tuesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Patriots got the scoring started in the top of the third inning. Kyle Roller grounded a two-run double down the right field line before D’Vontrey Richardson came through with a two-out RBI single to provide Somerset a 3-0 lead. Southern Maryland responded in the bottom of the third on a Kalaika Kahoohalahala (1) solo home run and a Jose Lozada RBI single, trimming their deficit to one. Roller (21) launched a solo home run in the top of the fifth to extend the lead out to two before a two-out RBI double from Tony Thomas made it a 5-2 ballgame in the sixth inning. Somerset opened up the game in the seventh with a four-run inning. A two-run double from Tyler Bortnick began the scoring before RBI singles from Scott Kelly and Justin Trapp increased the Patriots’ lead to 9-2. Carlos Guzman drew a bases-loaded walk in the 8th to get get Somerset into double-digits. The Blue Crabs fought back with a bases-loaded walk to Edwin Garcia in the bottom of the ninth that topped off the scoring. A.J. Achter (3-2) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Gaby Hernandez (11-4) suffered the loss after he allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings pitched. The Patriots continue their three-game series against Southern Maryland Tuesday evening. Right-handed pitcher Jerome Williams (2-3, 4.53 ERA) takes the mound against Blue Crabs’ righty Daryl Thompson (8-6, 3.73 ERA).
