The God Damn Knicks

The New York Knicks had the chance to make history and finally make right on years of so many wrongs.  They’ve been chasing that coveted free agent for years, from Lebron James to Carmelo Anthony.  They’ve had almost zero success in the past 20 years and the most loyal fans in sports were holding on to hope with the pending decisions of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Those hopes were dashed when Woj dropped the bomb of all bombs that both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were going to be playing together in Brooklyn;

Whatever no big deal.  Durant and Irving would have been a great duo but there’s a ton of uncertainty of if Irving can handle the pressures of New York and how Kevin Durant’s leg will hold up after tearing his achilles.  However, the Knicks needed to take a chance on one of the biggest free agents in NBA history because they can’t afford to not at least try for it.

Apparently team owner James Dolan didn’t think the same, and according to Ramona Shelburne didn’t even offer a max contract to Durant because of “concerns” over his knee.

The fact that Dolan didn’t even think about offering Durant the max contract and instead go after Julius Randle (who is a good player by the way) is exactly why the Knicks will never get out of this rut.  They could cycle through the best General Managers and Presidents in basketball history and it wouldn’t matter because James Dolan signs the checks at the end of the day and he has the last say.

Until Dolan sells the team the Knicks will be in a perpetual state of terrible basketball.  He has no idea what he’s doing and has prodded his nose into just about every basketball decision made.  He is a terrible owner and things will never change because of him.  Knicks fans should have seen this coming because the common denominator has been the same for years.

Until he’s out of there, it’s going to be more of the same.  The Knicks will win between 20-30 games for the next few years and will never be able to recruit a top free agent because of their owner.  It’s a sad truth but that’s life.  We feel for you Knicks fans.
