BIZ Women’s Sports Foundation Set to Host 36th Annual Gala by Staff Post October 16, 2015 Now is the time to celebrate women in sport. On Tuesday, October 20, the Women Sport’s Foundation will be holding their 36th Annual Salute to Women in Sports in NYC. The event is to celebrate and honor the female athletes who have set the stage and raised the bar for women’s athletics. Billie Jean King founded the Women’s Sports foundation; she had the dream to create a foundation that was dedicated to creating leaders in all walks of life by ensuring that girls have the access to sports. The Foundation also highlights research, advocacy, and grant programs that advance participation and leadership opportunities for women in sports. Every year at the Gala the following awards are given: -Sportswoman of the Year -Billie Jean King Contribution Award -Wilma Rudolph Courage Award This year’s nominees represent 18 sports and six different countries: Individual Sport: Simone Biles (Gymnastics) Kelly Clark (Snowboarding) Anna Fenninger (Alpine skiing) Natalie Geisenberger (Luge) Hannah Kearney (Skiing – freestyle) Jessica Long (Paralympic swimming) Tatyana McFadden (Paralympic Track & Field) Inbee Park (Golf) Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (Figure skating) Serena Williams (Tennis) Team Sport: Talita Antunes & Larissa França (Beach volleyball) Lauren Chamberlain (Softball) Cherrelle Garrett & Elana Meyers Taylor ( Bobsled) Martine Grael & Kahena Kunze (Sailing) Kimberly Hall (Volleyball) Hilary Knight (Ice Hockey) Carli Lloyd (Soccer) Maya Moore (Basketball) Maggie Steffens (Water Polo) Malaika Underwood (Baseball) It is sure to be a wonderful night, stay tuned into Double G Sports for Red Carpet coverage!
