Baseball Yankees add outfield depth by acquiring Cameron Maybin by Gregg Snyder April 25, 2019 After Clint Frazier became the latest to land on the New York Yankees injured list, the club was left with just three healthy outfielders – and one is a natural infielder. Brett Gardner, Mike Tauchman, and Tyler Wade are the only outfielders on the Yankees roster for their series finale Thursday against the Angels. GM Brian Cashman added some depth by trading for veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin. Cashman reportedly agrees to send Cash in exchange for Maybin. Maybin was signed by the Indians on a minor league deal after being released by the San Francisco Giants during spring training. He struggled offensively throughout spring training and was arrest for DUI in Arizona. He was hitting just .216 with five RBI in 14 International League games this season with the Columbus Clippers. Last season, Maybin played in 128 games with the Miami Marlins and Seattle Mariners where he hit a combined .249 with four homers, 28 RBI and 10 steals. He is a career .254 hitter. While likely not a long-term solution, Maybin can play all three outfield spots and has a lot of speed. Most importantly, he is healthy – something not many Yankees can say these days. At the time of acquisition, it was not known if Maybin will be activated to the major league roster or report to Triple-A. It would not be surprising if he is activated ahead of the Yankees interleague series in San Francisco which begins Friday.
