Double G Sports fans have spoken…

Gary Sanchez is the 2016 Double G Sports Rookie of the Year! Gary takes home the award in a category loaded with talent. The other finalists were Erica Skroski (Sky Blue FC), Kiah Stokes (New York Liberty) and Kristaps Porzingis (New York Knicks).

Sanchez played in just 53 games for the New York Yankees during the 2016 season, but boy was his presence felt in the Bronx.

The Baby Bomber led the sinking Yankees back into the thick of the American League Wild Card race in August and September. The Kraken finished the season batting .299 with 20 homers and 42 RBI. Sanchez took the Bronx by storm with his torrid home run pace. He tied the record for fastest player to reach 20 home runs in the history of baseball. It took just 51 games, which tied him with Wally Berger of the Boston Braves.

Gary Sanchez gave Yankee fans a reason to tune in every night. It felt as though he hit home run every time he stepped to the plate. When he wasn’t in the batters box, he showed off his stellar defense behind the dish. The rookie hosed 13 runners in 32 attempts by base stealers. He finished with a 41% caught stealing percentage, which was higher than the league average. That would have placed him in the top five in the American League. He is the total package, dominating offensively and defensively.

Sanchez looks to be the pillar for the new look Yankees to build around for years to come.
