Yankees Fall Short in Chase for 28

The Boston Red Sox held off a ninth-inning rally by the New York Yankees to win the American League Division series in four games. Boston is set to face off against the Houston Astros for the A.L. pennant.

The Yankees teased its fans before eventually falling to Boston. In the bottom of the ninth inning, down 4-1 the New York Yankees were down to its last three outs. The bombers bitter rival Boston Red Sox were three outs away from advancing to the American League Championship Series.

The Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel entered the game to face Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorious and Giancarlo Stanton. Kimbrel issued a four pitch walk to Judge, and allowed a single through the right side of the infield to Gregorious. Stanton followed by striking out on a slider from Kimbrel.

The Yankees looking to string a late comeback and keep their chase for its 28th World Series Championship in franchise history, sent Luke Voit to the plate. Voit walked and was followed to the plate by Neil Walker. The bases were loaded for Walker when he was hit in the foot forcing in a run. The Bombers were down 4-2 as Gary Sanchez worked his way to the dish. Sanchez missed a game winning grand slam by a mere few feet, instead his fly out to the warning track in left field resulted in a sacrafice fly and a run for the Yankees.

Down 4-3, Gleybar Torres dug into the box for the Yanks. He hit a slow dribbler up the line, Red Sox third basement fielded the ball and fired to first. Gleybar Torres was ruled out on the play which was reviewed. The call on the field was reaffirmed, allowing the Boston Red Sox to advance to the ALCS to face the Houston Astros.

Red Sox starter Rick Porcello dominated the Yankees lineup, allowing only one run through five innings of work. THe lone run Porcello gave up came off a sacrifice fly by Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner. PRocello channeled his 2016 CY Young form in tonights matchup. The Bombers starter C.C. Sabathia was pulled just after three innings, allowing three runs.

Boston tacked on its fourth run in the fourth inning when Red Sox catcher Christian Vasquez hit an opposite field home run off Yankee reliever Zach Britton. After five strong innings from Porcello, Boston’s bullpen looked dominant. Red Sox relievers Matt Barners, Ryan Brasier and the Red Sox ace Chris Sale all worked scorless innings of work. Craig Kimbrel closed out the game despite a troublesome ninth inning sending the Red Sox to the ALCS.

The Red Sox victory marks the second time this season in which Boston celebrated in the Bronx.
