Today marks the first essential moves into the youth movement, as the Philadelphia Eagles released two players who are approaching the wrong side of 30.

Cary Williams, 30, signed a three-year $17 million deal back in 2013, and would have been owed eight million dollars if he were still on the roster. This move saves the Eagles 6.5 million dollars, and it also saves them the distraction that possibly caused the locker room to divide. Williams’ volatile personality surfaced during the summer of 2013 when he & Philadelphia wide receiver Riley Cooper got into a physical altercation, and had to be separated.

The trouble didn’t stop there as Williams was interviewed early on last year saying that Chip Kelly works the players too hard, and that he (Kelly) should lighten the workload as it hinders most of the player’s performance on Sundays.

“We’ve got to start taking care of our guys, taking care of our players,” Williams said in September. “A lot of guys coming in here had no legs.”

Williams who played all 33 regular season and playoff games during his two seasons with the Eagles. He happened to be a part of a secondary that allowed the most passing yards in 2013 and the second-most in 2014.

Williams said in an interview on 97.5 the fanatic that he was never given an option to restructure his contract, but he enjoyed his time in Philadelphia and he respects their decision. Williams is set to be a free agent this offseason, and is looking to prove the previous seasons were a fluke.

Todd Herremans, 32, was also released by the Eagles last week, and was really surprised by the decision.

“It was definitely a little surprise to me,” Herremans told Jon Marks, Sean Brace and Brian Baldinger Monday on 97.5 FM The Fanatic in Philadelphia. “The more years you play here you keep telling yourself it’s coming eventually. I just thought after playing so long that I’d have a better feel for when it was going to come. (NJ.COM)

Herremans was drafted by the Eagles, and was with the franchise for 10 years. He didn’t see the field too much last season because of a Torn Biceps injury. Herremans hopes the organization gets on the right track, and finally gets a Super Bowl here once and for all.
