Feature Brodeur Unlikely to Return to Devils Anytime Soon Martin Brodeur retired from the NHL last season. by Staff Post May 13, 2015 Martin Brodeur (https://blues.nhl.com/) When Martin Brodeur retired from the NHL last season as a member of the St. Louis Blues, then Devils General Manager Lou Lamoriello all but guaranteed Brodeur a spot in the Devils front office the following season. Since then Lamoriello has been replaced as Devils GM with Ray Shero and a spot for Brodeur seems unlikely. Ray Shero has no debt to pay to Brodeur — he wasn’t in the Devils organization to witness the goalie’s greatness and so does not have any real incentive to bring in a guy who’s had half a year of front office experience. This isn’t to say that some day he won’t welcome him back to the organization, but for now Shero is building his own identity with the Devils. Brodeur, speaking with Devils writer Tom Gulitti, had this to say about the situation: “I think it’s a great opportunity for me to take a step back and go somewhere – or stay somewhere – that I’ll be able to learn and do things I want to do and try to learn as much as possible and who knows what the future. But, it’s less and less likely it’s going to happen in New Jersey for a few years, that’s for sure.” In the long run, this hesitancy will probably favor the Devils as the organization goes in a new direction and Brodeur gains vital front office experience elsewhere. If and when they meet again someday, Brodeur will be able to help the Devils in more than the legacy category.
