Baseball Yankees fall 7-4, lose crucial series against the Blue Jays by Staff Post August 18, 2016 Coming into the series against the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees came in with a lot of momentum, winning four out of their last six games, and things were looking up. The series against the Blue Jays was a crucial one to get back into the AL East race, and it ended in disappointing fashion. After rookie Chad Green dominated the Blue Jays’ lineup on Monday night with 11 strikeouts in six innings pitched, things went south. A rain delay on Tuesday played a part in slowing down the Yankees momentum, and the bullpen that’s usually pretty good, squandered a six-run lead, and allowed eight runs in the eighth inning. The Yankees would go on to lose 12-6, which wasted a very winnable game because the Yankees had a golden opportunity to move within 4 1/2 games of first place. On Wednesday afternoon, the Yankees fell to the Blue Jays, 7-4, losing two out of three in the series, and it was a weird outing by CC Sabathia. Sabathia did pitch six innings, which was the good part, along with his 12 strikeouts, but the weird part is he gave up seven earned runs on nine hits. Sabathia has now lost five straight starts against the Blue Jays. The bright spot in Wednesday’s game was rookie catcher Gary Sanchez, who went two-for-three with a home run to center field in the second inning off of J.A Happ. Ever since being called up again on August 3rd, Sanchez has been on a tear. He’s now hitting .346 with 5 home runs and has 11 RBI’s in 53 at bats. What’s next for the Yankees? A west coast trip that starts Friday night in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels, as the Yankees look to regain momentum. Masahiro Tanaka will start for the Yankees and Jared Weaver will start for the Angels.
