Timmy Robinson’s Walk-Off Single Wins Big Game for Staten Island Yankees

The Staten Island Yankees pulled off a much needed comeback in the bottom of the 9th last night to defeat Aberdeen. The Yankees got off to a tremendous start, putting up five runs in the first inning. Two singles, two doubles, and a wild pitch enabled those five runs to score as the Yankees had Aberdeen dead from the start.

However, Aberdeen would slowly climb back into the game, putting up one run in the 2nd and two in 3rd to trim the Yankees lead to 5-3.

Going into the top of the 7th, the Yankees still had the lead, 6-4. Aberdeen would bring two runs to the plate in the inning to tie the game. After going down in short order in the bottom of the 7th, Aberdeen would take the lead in the top of the 8th on a sacrifice squeeze.
Heading to the bottom of the 9th, the Yankees pinch hit Nick Solak for Yancarlos Baez. Solak would walk to lead the inning off. Ben Ruta would sacrifice Solak over to 2nd. Next batter, Angel Aguilar would single to center, putting runners on the corners with only one out. After Drew Bridges walked, Timmy Robinson came to the plate. He would single sharply to right field, scoring two runs and ending the game. Timmy Robinson had a great game going 3-4, including a home run and the game winning hit. Overall, the Yankees had nine hits on the night. Claudio Custodio would pick up the win in relief. He is now 3-0 on the season.
This was a much needed win for the Yankees as they head to the home stretch of the schedule. They still trail first place, Hudson Valley by 4.5 games, as the Renegades have won eight in a row and nine of their last 10. The Yankees do hold a 1.5 lead in the wild card over Connecticut.
The Yankees will be back in action tonight for the last game of the series against Aberdeen. De La Rosa will be on the mound, looking for his 6th win of the season.
