MMA Conor McGregor arrested, charged with assault after Barclays Center incident One of the best fighters the UFC has ever had has soured his reputation over the past few days by Daniel Yanofsky April 6, 2018 It has been a wild 24 hours for Conor McGregor. After causing a raucous at the UFC 223 Media Day inside the Barclays Center, “The Notorious One” fled the scene of the crime. He later turned himself into police custody, at the 78th Precinct in Brooklyn. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani was at the scene where McGregor was brought in. While no news was reported overnight, a bombshell was dropped on McGregor in the early morning. The 29-year old was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief. httpss://twitter.com/wbz/status/982263050152456192 This all seemed to start when Khabib Nurmagomedov and a group of people confronted McGregor’s friend and teammate Artem Lobov. McGregor’s scene caused several fights to be removed from UFC 223 due to damaged sustained to the fighters. Ray Borg ended up having shards of glass in his eyes, and Michael Chiesa ended up having lacerations on his face. Dana White spoke to the media regarding the incident, pointing out that McGregor is on his own on this one. “This is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of the company. You can imagine he’s going to be sued beyond belief and this was a real bad career move for him… I don’t know if [McGregor is] on drugs, or what his deal is. But to come and do this and to act like this — you’re talking about a guy who had a baby. He just had a kid. This is how you’re acting? You have a son at home.” McGregor is expected to face his charges late Friday afternoon. Depending on how this whole ordeal goes down in court, it will be interesting to see how the UFC handles McGregor. Known to get a free pass every now and then, the man went too far and will most likely pay, both with cash and his career. Stay tuned for what is sure to be another very hectic day for the UFC.
