Baseball Troy Tulowitski signs one-year deal with New York Yankees by Chris Passarelli January 2, 2019 The New York Yankees made a splash with a signing today, albeit a very small splash. They officially signed shortstop Troy Tulowitski to a one year, vet minimum contract. There are two things that most people complained about after the news was broke; The first being “Are the Yankees out on Manny Machado?” and the second being “Why would they waste money on a washed up shortstop?”. To answer the first question, this transaction in no way, shape or form is an indication that the Yankees are out on Machado. Tulo is essentially a Ronald Torreyes type utility infielder at this point and will be used as such. He is not the every day shortstop. The second question is even easier to answer because it’s not a waste of money at all. How can it be a waste of money when they’re signing a former multi time All Star for the VETERAN’S MINIMUM? It doesn’t matter that he probably doesn’t have much left in the tank or is super injury prone. All that matters is that when he is on the field, he gives the Yankees a dangerous bat and a solid glove. People need to stop looking into things so much. Tulo always wanted to be a Yankee, the Yankees saw this as an opportunity to potentially strike gold on an absolutely bargain of a contract, and the rest is history. If it doesn’t work out it’s no sweat off of Brian Cashman’s back. Lay off the man, it was a good deal that the Yankees couldn’t pass up.
