Did I jinx the Yankees?

For those of you who already read my season preview, you’ll know that I said the only reason why the Yankees would not make the playoffs is a ridiculous string of injuries.  For those of you who haven’t read it yet, here you go.  Enter late April 2019 and here we are, with more than half the starting lineup on the IL and for some, a very long recovery.

Just to garner what kind of impact injuries have had on the Yankees, note that with the team below the Yankees could absolutely compete for a World Series.  Let’s take a look;

C – Gary Sanchez

1B – Greg Bird

2B – Troy Tulowitzki

SS – Didi Gregorius

3B – Miguel Andujar

RF – Aaron Judge

CF – Aaron Hicks

LF – Giancarlo Stanton

SP – Luis Severino

RP – Dellin Betances

Are you serious with that?  The guys who are on the IL for the Yankees are better (at least on paper) then more than half of the teams in the Major Leagues.  Anyway I will take the blame for the Yankees’ woes.  The amount of injuries the Yanks have is almost unfathomable.

With the recent injury to Aaron Judge, one can only hope that reinforcements are on the way.  According to multiple sources within the Yankees organization, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez will make the trip to California for the Yankees series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  Miguel Andujar is close, so having those three back in the lineup will be a HUGE boost to the team.

No offense to Mike Tauchman or Gio Urshela, who have both filled in nicely while the Yankees’ stars have been out, but it will be a welcome sight to see some of the regulars start to come back.  What is good is that if there’s one thing the Yankees have, it’s depth.  Let’s just hope the Yankees won’t have to use more of that depth.
