American Pharoah wins Triple Crown

American Pharoah joined the ranks of other greats who have won the Triple Crown, this past Saturday, June 6th.  It had been 37 years since the last Triple Crown victory.  This, the 147th running of the Belmont Stakes, became one for the history books, when American Pharoah galloped to victory.  No horse has won all three races, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes, making up the Triple Crown since 1978.

NHL Playoffs

NHL Playoffs are tied at 1-1.  Game three is set for Monday night at United Center.  At present, there is concern that Ben Bishop may not be able to perform due to possible leg injury, in which case, Andrei Vasilevskiy will step in.  According to  Vasilevskiy. “became the first goalie to earn his first career playoff win in relief in the Final since Lester Patrick, then the coach of the New York Rangers, did so in 1928.”

NBA Finals

It was the Cavs who pulled off the win, Sunday evening, when they won on the road against Golden State.   The final score 95-93 and the emotional contagion was amazing as LeBron James did not hesitate to show his joy after the game ended in Overtime.


This weekend, there was sad news, when a fan at Fenway was injured due to being struck in the face from a broken bat.  Tonya Carpenter, was sitting was, according to Fox Sports, “sitting beyond the netting, in the second row between home plate and the third base dugout.” Much of the discussion on Twitter, was showing support for Ms. Carpenter, by sharing prayers for her recovery.


Lots of tweets about whether or not Caitlyn Jenner [ formerly Bruce Jenner ] deserves to win the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.  Many people are upset that the ESPY award will not be awarded to Lauren Hill and/or Noah Galloway.  Lauren transcended college sports by playing basketball through a debilitating illness, until she died. She raised millions of dollars for cancer research.  Noah is an Army Vet was injured during an Improvised Explosive Device attack.  He lost two of his limbs and sustained severe injuries which left him heartbroken and withdrawn.  According to his site, he took a look in the mirror, and decided he would not allow excuses to cause him to give up.  He has since become a motivational speaker, and formed No Excuses Charitable Fund.  You can learn more by checking out #NOEXCUSESNOAH on Twitter.
