BlueClaws Get Extra Inning Win on Wilson Garcia Homer

Wilson Garcia hit a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning, giving the Lakewood BlueClaws an 8-7 victory over the Greenville (S.C.) Drive on Thursday night in the South Atlantic League.

Garcia’s drive, his first since he played in the Venezuelan Summer League in 2010, came after the Drive, the Boston Red Sox’s low Class A farm team, scored two runs in the ninth to tie the game. Lakewood had leads of 6-0 and 7-2.

Jake Waguespack, who pitched a scoreless eighth, walked two in the ninth and allowed a two-run single to Tate Matheny to tie the game at seven. Waguespack got the final two outs to end the inning. He’s 4-1 with two blown saves.

Zach Morris pitched a perfect 10th for his first save of the year and third professional save. Trevor Kelley suffered the loss.

Lakewood took a 6-0 lead with two runs in the first and four in the third. Josh Tobias and Damek Tomscha hit RBI singles in the first. Deivi Grullon hit a two-run single in the third with two out.
