BlueClaws Pitching and Timely Hitting Contributes to 2-1 Win over Columbia

The Lakewood BlueClaws pitchers continue to baffle the Columbia RiverDogs hitters and won another close game 2-1, improving their record to 18-15.  Charleston dropped under .500 to 16-17.

Two BlueClaws home runs provided all the run support the team would need in yet another closely contested battle.  Lakewood first run came off the bat of third baseman Jake Scheiner 4th blast of the year in the fourth inning gave the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead. They increased their lead to 2-0 when first baseman Gregori Rivero went deep for his second dinger of the year.

Charlestown put up their lone run in the seventh, but strong BlueClaw pitching kept them in check.  Spenser Howard (3-2) earned the win after tossing six innings of 3-hit shutout ball, while striking out seven RiverDogs.  Julian Garcia pitched the seventh to record his fourth hold and Kyle was credited with his fourth save.
