Burnley v Liverpool – Betting Tips

Liverpool_v_Chelsea,_2005

Another 3 o’clock kick off on Saturday sees Sean Dyche’s Burnley taking on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Turf Moor. Burnley suffered a narrow defeat to Swansea on the opening day whereas Liverpool managed to beat Arsenal 4-3 at the Emirates in what was definitely the most entertaining game of the weekend.

Sean Dyche was critical of the perception of English managers last week when he claimed that they don’t receive as much praise as their foreign counterparts and I am inclined to agree as a long term admirer of Sam Allardyce. I do worry about Burnley though, last time they were criticised for not spending enough money on the squad and they did look like they lacked quality. This season they have only spent £10m on 3 players again and you can’t help but wonder where all of the promotion money has gone? Steven Defour for £7m could be a great signing though, this is a player that once received a letter from Sir Alex Ferguson stating that Manchester United were interested if he could regain his form before a really bad, lengthy injury when he was younger. He is experienced and has captained almost every team he has played for such as Porto, Anderlecht and Standard Liege. He is a lion in the centre of midfield and he seems like a shrewd signing from Dyche.

Liverpool are my dark horses to challenge for the title this season. They do need to sign a decent centre back but Klopp will be hoping Joel Matip can be that centre back when he returns from injury after his free transfer from Schalke in the summer. Klopp’s teams play with very high aggression and intensity and Liverpool are no exception. They were left wanting in the first half against Arsenal and were lucky to go in 1-1 at half time due to an exceptional Coutinho free kick but at times in the second half they dominated Arsene Wenger’s side, they just need to be a bit better defensively and they could blow teams away this season. Outright Winner – Liverpool

Sorry Sean Dyche but I have to go for Liverpool here. They have some top quality players and a top quality manager to boot (even if he isn’t English). Burnley are too similar to the team that went down last time with players like Arfield, Keane and Heaton. They need a couple more players of Defour’s quality to stay up.

Both Teams to Score – Yes

Liverpool will definitely score in this game, I have no doubts about that. I also think Burnley could score here just because of how poor Liverpool’s defence looked at times in the Arsenal game.

Correct Score – Burnley 1-3 Liverpool

If Liverpool play how they can play, then they should be way too much for the Clarets. Burnley will give everything because Sean Dyche expects no less from his players but Liverpool’s quality should shine through and be enough to see off that threat.

First Goal Scorer – Roberto Firmino

He drifted in and out of the Arsenal game and didn’t quite look like he did at times last season but Jurgen Klopp will soon sort that out. He looked a little overweight during pre season training but now he’ll be slim and ready to play. With Coutinho, Sturridge and Mane potentially out injured, he is going to be expected to chip in with the goals and he’s never failed to deliver that before.
