Devils Honor Brodeur With Statue Outside Prudential Center

The rain could not keep the fans away from the Rock on Saturday night as the New Jersey Devils’ were set to unveil “The Salute” a statue to honor #30, Martin Brodeur.

Kevin Weekes, Brodeur’s friend and former Devil teammate, lead the ceremony for the dedication that will forever embody Brodeur’s famous after game, winning pose. During the ceremony Weekes introduced Devils co-owner David S. Blitzer who had many kind words for the Devils’ icon.

During both Weekes and Blitzer’s tributes to the legend, the crowd that gathered prior to a 2-1 Devils win over the Wild, chanted “Marty’s Better” and “Mar-ty” both of which had be staples of Brodeur’s playing days in New Jersey.

When it was Brodeurs turn to speak, he seemed overwhelmed with the love of the fans and the fact he would forever be immortalized in front of the Prudential Center as the true Devils icon he is. “The Salute” will live at its forever home by the Lafayette Tower.
