The sports world is always filled with upsets and surprises, and 2015 was no exception.  Who would have thought that the New York Mets would make it to the World Series?  Here at Double G Sports we have asked you, our loyal readers, to vote on your favorite moments. And the winners are…

Men’s Team of the Year was awarded to the New York Mets.  They also swept up the awards for Most Improved Team, Coach of the Year with Terry Collins, and Rookie of the Year with Noah Syndergaard.  Women’s Team of the Year was awarded to the US Women’s Soccer team.  They also won Female Athlete of the Year with Carli Lloyd.  Male Athlete of the Year went to Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers.

On the collegiate level, Rutgers cleaned up with five awards.  College Coach of the Year went to C. Vivian Stringer of Rutgers Women’s Basketball, College Men’s Team of the Year went to Rutgers Wrestling, College Women’s Team of the Year went to Rutgers Soccer, College Male Athlete of the Year went to Anthony Ashnault of Rutgers Wrestling, and College Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Casey Murphy of Rutgers Soccer.

College Freshman of the Year was awarded to Hofstra Soccer player, Madeline Anderson.

High School Coach of the Year was awarded to Scotch Plains-Fanwood Girls Swimming coach Jess Hulnik.  Their Girls Swimming team also won High School Girls Team of the Year.  Roselle Catholic Basketball was awarded High School Boys Team of the Year, and Isaiah Briscoe of the Roselle Catholic Basketball team was High School Male Athlete of the Year. High School Female Athlete of the Year went to Kendall Cornine of the Morristown-Beard Ice Hockey team.

Inspirational Athlete of the Year was Eric LeGrand, and Moment of the Year was Carli Lloyd’s hat trick in World Cup.

We’d like to congratulate our very own Catalina Fragoso with the award Double G Sports Staff Member of the Year.

That’s a wrap on 2015, and we look forward to what comes in 2016.
