Ducks Shut Out Patriots 7-0

716brysonwebCentral Islip, NY – The Long Island Ducks (6-2, 46-32) scored multiple runs in the third and fourth innings to swim their way by the Somerset Patriots (5-4, 43-36) 7-0 Saturday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.

Despite the lopsided loss, the Patriots bullpen continued to shine. The unit hurled 3.2 scoreless frames. Over the last 11 games, the bullpen has logged 44.2 innings and only yielded six runs which is good for a stellar 1.22 ERA.

“I’m new here but the guys have been great so it’s easy to fit in,” Rob Bryson, who threw a scoreless eighth inning tonight remarked. “Every good bullpen I’ve been part of feeds off one another and we have that going here.”

Delta Clearly Jr’s solo home run (1) and Ruben Gotay’s two-run home run (5) gave the Ducks a 3-0 lead after four frames.

In the fourth inning the Ducks added four more. Cleary Jr and Cody Puckett tallied RBI singles. Mark Minicozzi would then slug a two-run double to put the game out of reach making the score 7-0 which would be the final.

Darin Downs (7-5) earned the win, hurling seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven and walked none while giving up five hits. Donovan Hand (3-2) sustained the loss. He was charged for all seven runs in 4.1 innings of work.

The Patriots have only mustered three runs during their three game losing streak.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Tuesday, July 19th.
