Football Eagles Fly High Over Packers With 34-27 Victory by Carly Wolff September 27, 2019 The Philadelphia Eagles collected a big road win over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night, winning a high-scoring 34-27 contest to even their record at 2-2. The Eagles got Alshon Jeffrey back as well as Dallas Goedert, both key pieces to the offense. Jordan Howard was also a big part of the success. He took some of the work off of Miles Sanders’ shoulders, who also had a stellar performance. Wentz was good under pressure and scrambled a bit. He had two lackluster passes on the final drive of the game, but overall he gave a solid performance. Derek Barnett laid a strip sack on Aaron Rodgers, who proceeded to fumble while Brandon Graham recovered for Philadelphia. Jordan Howard immediately got a touchdown to increase the lead over Green Bay. The Packers drove down the field with some blown coverage on the Eagles secondary’s part and scored again. The score was 21-20 in favor of the Eagles at the end of the first half. The Packers started the second half and had nothing to show for their first drive. Philly’s offense was particularly good against a good defense for Green Bay. Wentz had a good screen pass to Jordan Howard, who ran it in for another Eagles touchdown. Later in the third, Philadelphia had an excellent blitz and Graham nearly picked the pass off, dropping it at the last second, his frustration evident. It was a good call by Jim Schwartz all the same. The defense was not great this entire game, especially against Aaron Rodgers and Devante Adams, but they came up with three big stops when it mattered. The Eagles were somehow able to hold the Packers at the one yard line on four attempts. Green Bay decided to run the clock out in hopes of tying the game to force overtime on their final drive. Their attempts were futile as the pass was picked off to give the Eagles a huge road victory against an undefeated team. The fact that this road win was also at Lambeau Field makes it all the more impressive. Additional thoughts on the game; Green Bay threw the challenge flag claiming defensive pass interference on Avonte Maddox and lost. Maddox later was injured and had to be taken off the field by stretcher. Eagles reported he was able to move all extremities, but was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. Doug Pederson challenged a very similar looking questionable call claiming defensive pass interference, but again, he lost as well. Some commentators and spectators voiced their disagreement furthering the discussion of strange calls or non calls in the games. Furthermore, the Eagles have some key areas they need to improve upon. The passing defense is not even close to where it needs to be. The secondary left receivers wide open for Rodgers with large gaps. That can’t happen. They looked lost on the field last night and they had a lot of blown coverage as a result. The secondary also looked exhausted and like they were hanging on by a thread at the tail end of the game. Lastly, the Eagles seemed to take a lot of incredibly stupid penalties during the game including an unnecessary roughness call after throwing one of the Packers to the ground after a big stop. A win is a win no matter how ugly though and we now sit at 2-2. Our next game is against the New York Jets on Sunday October 6th at 1:00 p.m. Post Views: 1,278 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Carly Wolff Latest posts by Carly Wolff (see all) Getting Frosty?
