Football Ex-Rutgers Linebacker Khaseem Greene Waived By Bears, Claimed By Bucs Green to join George Johnson and Andrew DePaola on Bucs. by Staff Post May 13, 2015 LB Khaseem Greene while at RU (Douglas Jones-USA TODAY Sports) Monday, the Chicago Bears waived former Rutgers linebacker/safety after two underachieving seasons. However, Greene quickly caught on with another team after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed him off waivers yesterday. Greene, a two time Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012, played mostly special teams for Chicago, earning spot playing time at linebacker. The Elizabeth, N.J. native racked up 28 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception in 15 games as a rookie in 2013, but regressed with 16 tackles in 10 games last season. He had a career high eight total tackles (six solo, two assisted) against the Atlanta Falcons this past Oct. 12. The Bears fourth-round selection in 2013 was superb for Rutgers moving from safety to weak side linebacker in their 4-3 scheme. He was able to use his speed accumulating 141, and 136 tackles his final two seasons “On the Banks”. He had a nose for causing turnovers forcing 12 fumbles at Rutgers and scoring twice off them. Greene also snagged six interceptions as well. Now, the 6-foot-1, 241-pounder can start fresh and earn a spot in the linebacker rotation and contribute on special teams with the Bucs. Greene will join fellow Rutgers alumni long-snapper Andrew DePaola and defensive end George Johnson with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
