Baseball Extra – Extra, the BlueClaws win in the 10th by Scott Mahnken April 11, 2018 The BlueClaws (3-4) won the early morning matinee game against the Power 4-3 to take the series two games to one. First baseman Jake Scheiner took advantage of the minor leagues new extra inning rule, which has teams starting the inning with a runner on second base. Scheiner’s single brought home the winning run when center fielder Simon Muzziotta crossed the plate for the BlueClaws. BlueClaws closer Kyle Dohy (SV #2) had to bear down after a BlueClaws error gave the Power two on and nobody out. Dohy showed grit, by striking out the next two batters and got a ground out to end the game and the series. Today’s win went to Addison Russ (1-0) who hurled two scoreless innings to notch his first win of the 2018 campaign. The BlueClaws took the lead in the fourth, when third baseman Cole Stobbe singled to make it 1-0. In the sixth Stobbe and shortstop Nick Maton combined to drive in two runs by hitting a double and single respectively, lifting the BlueClaws to a 3-1 lead. But, an ugly early season trend continued, when Lakewood gave the two-run lead right back, as the Power pushed two runs across in the bottom of the inning. BlueClaws starting pitcher, Ramon Russo pitched five strong innings, allowing just one run, while striking out a career high 12 West Virginia batters. After opening the season in North Carolina and West Virginia the Claws head home for a match-up against Delmarva. The BlueClaws home opener is scheduled for 6:35pm Thursday night under the lights. The game represents the BlueClaws 18th season as the Phillies Single A affiliate. Lefty, Will Stewart (1-0) gets the starting honors for the BlueClaws 2018 home opener and he’ll be facing another lefty, Delmarva’s Cameron Bishop (1-0). Both players are 1-0 and seeking their second win of the season. Looks like temperatures will be in the high 50’s for game time. See you at the game!
