(Bellator)

Everything happens for a reason, right?

After a last minute cancellation for their first scheduled bout at Bellator 172, Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione has been rescheduled as the co-main event for Bellator 180 in New York.

The bout, scheduled for June 24 at Madison Square Garden, was first reported by the New York Post Monday.

The news broke just hours after the Associated Press announced the promotions first visit to the Empire State. The Bellator pay-per-view will be headlined by UFC vet’s Chael Sonnen and Wandereli Silva.

Mitrione withdrew from the Bellator 172 main event against Emelianenko in February hours before the card started due to kidney stones.

This will be Emelianenko’s debut with the promotion since signing in 2016.

Mitrione opted for free agency once his UFC contract was fulfilled. He then made his Bellator debut at Bellator 157 in June.

For the promotions first mega-card at the World’s Most Famous arena, we can expect more big names added in the coming weeks.

Who else would you like to see at the Garden?
