Columns Fit with Brit: All or Nothing vs. Moderation by Brittany LaPlant February 2, 2020 Hello everyone and welcome back to Fit with Brit! I hope everyone has had an awesome start to 2020 and that you’re all working hard to achieve your New Years resolutions and goals. With that being said, this week I want to tackle another nutrition misconception. There are two approaches that come to mind when it comes to eating food that has less nutritional value. I say “less nutritional value” as opposed to unhealthy food/food that’s bad for you, because I believe that food is not black and white. It is important to take into consideration how much of something you are eating before deeming it healthy or unhealthy. Too much of anything, will lead to fat and weight gain, whether or not that’s your goal. The first approach is the “all or nothing” approach. In this approach, a person has the mindset that since they’re not supposed to eat ice cream, when they do they might as well go all in and then get back to their diet tomorrow. This might look like someone sitting down and eating a 1,200 calorie pint of ice cream. The second approach is the “everything in moderation” approach. In this approach, a person has the awareness and control to enjoy a small 150-300 calorie ice cream cone or dish when they’re craving it, while still staying on track. As I’ve mentioned in the past, living a healthy lifestyle and eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring. Eating doesn’t have to be all or nothing. It’s possible to enjoy ice cream while still staying within your caloric and macro goals!
