Lakewood Falls to Delmarva in 10th

Nataenal Delgado’s home run in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Delmarva (Md.) Shorebirds a 2-1 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws in South Atlantic League play at Perdue Stadium Thursday night, in the first game of their four-game series.
Delgado’s drive, his second homer of the season, came off Luis Morales (0-2). Morales had retired his first six hitters he faced. It was the first walkoff homer allowed by Lakewood, the Philadelphia Phillies’ low Class A farm team, since Jordan Arenado of Augusta (Ga.) got the chance to touch ’em all on April 30, 2015. Thursday night’s setback was the fourth walkoff loss suffered by Lakewood this year and second at Delmarva, a Baltimore Orioles affiliate.
With Lakewood down 1-0, Jiandido Tromp homered off Christian Turnipseed to open the ninth. It was Tromp’s seventh homer of the year and 16th since the All-Star break last season.
The loss ended Lakewood’s three-game winning streak and put the club at 23-36. Delmarva improved to 6-3 against Lakewood and to 33-25 on the season.
Delmarva took a 1-0 lead in the first. Franklyn Kilome set down his first two hitters and walked two straight batters, leading to an RBI single to center field by Ryan Mouncastle.
In the fourth, Lakewood’s Emmanuel Marrero and Josh Tobias were thrown out attempting to steal second base by catcher Yermin Merceds.
Lakewood threatened to score in the sixth. With two out and none on, Ofelky Peralta walked three straight hitters to load the bases. Delmarva went to the bullpen for Garret Cleavinger, who got Jose Pujols to pop out to second.
Kilome pitched a professional career-high seven innings. He struck out two in the seventh for a pro career-best nine. Peralta started and allowed three hits and five walks through 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
Elias Pinales (2-0), who allowed two hits in the 10th, earned the win. Lakewood’s Jan Hernandez had his second straight two-hit game.
Lakewood righty Drew Anderson (0-1) will oppose lefty Brian Gonzalez (5-2) Friday night at 7:05 in Salisbury.
