The Long Island Ducks claimed victory tonight against the York Revolution 3-1 at Bethpage Ballpark.

York was able to get the first run on the board in the first inning after a two-out RBI double from right-fielder Michael Burgess. The one-run advantage was not maintained for long when Ducks Mike Blanke and Mike Dowd produced RBI singles. York was unable to come up with the run support they needed during the game. Long Island was able to extend their lead in the eighth thanks to Dan Lyon’s scoring off a wild pitch.

Starter Darin Downs (5-4) dazzled after pitching seven solid innings for the Ducks. Downs handed out ten strikeouts and only allowed one run on three hits.

Ducks manger Kevin Baez was impressed with Downs start saying, “its huge when you can get your starter to at least go seven, keep the bullpen fresh.” Baez explained the importance of getting seven solid innings from his starters because it allows his bullpen some rest and gives him flexibility for the games to come.

Downs performance gave his teammates, managers, fans, and himself a lot to be proud of. “I felt pretty good, its good to get a win for myself and help the team get the win.” Downs believed his strengths tonight were, “the command and the fastball. Being able to command the inside of the plate really worked out.”

The Long Island Ducks play two more games in this four game series against York Revolution this week at home. For tickets please call (631) 940-TIXX.
