Despite taking two out of three games from the Pittsburgh Pirates, it is apparent that the New York Mets need to make a move to upgrade their offense. Whether it be acquiring a third baseman, first baseman or catcher, the team needs to upgrade their lineup if they are truly going to challenge the Washington Nationals for the division or just battle for a Wild Card spot.

This is especially true in light of the injuries to David Wright and Lucas Duda. Catcher Travis D’Arnaud will return from the DL on Tuesday when the Mets host the Kansas City Royals.

The Mets stand at 36-29 and are ahead in the wild card race, but they need to do more since this season was expected to be about going back to the World Series, not competing for the Wild Card.

New York plays the last place Atlanta Braves this weekend and then end their homestand versus the Kansas City Royals. The Mets will then head on the road to play four against the Braves and three against the first place Nationals.

The message is the great Mets pitching is keeping the team in the race, but more needs to be done by GM Sandy Alderson in terms of upgrading the offense in order for them to truly contend this year.
