In the seventh inning of the New York Yankees 8-4 win over the Detroit Tigers, Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro made history lining a single into right field off of Tigers right-hander Logan Kensing.

Castro, 26, is the fifth youngest player to reach 1,000 hits in the past 30 years, joining elite company including Miguel Cabrera, Roberto Alomar, Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez.

Castro is also 78 days younger than the Yankees captain, Derek Jeter, when he reached 1,000 hits.

In the game, Castro was 2-for-4 and is now batting .450 with two home runs and eight RBI on the young 2016 campaign.
