Patriots Outlast Barnstormers 7-6

aug01FINALLancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (15-8, 65-28) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (14-8, 42-50) 7-6 Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The victory snapped Lancaster’s eight game winning streak.

 

In the top of the first inning left fielder Aharon Eggleston cranked a two run home run (3) to give Somerset a 2-0 advantage.

 

Lancaster evened the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning as right fielder Kevin Rivers roped a RBI triple while left fielder Kent Matthes tallied a RBI sacrifice fly.

 

The Patriots retook the lead in the top of the third inning to make the score 5-2. Third baseman David Vidal slapped a RBI single and shortstop Robert Andino blooped a two RBI single.

 

Somerset added a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to expand its lead to 7-2. A run crossed via first baseman Mike McDade’s fielding error and another run crossed via a wild pitch hurled by Blake Hassebrock.

 

Lancaster cut the deficit to 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when McDade socked a home run (3) and third baseman Anderson Feliz served a RBI single.

 

The Barnstormers scored twice more in the bottom of the eighth inning as second baseman Luke Hughes smashed a two RBI double making the score 7-6.

 

Mickey Storey earned the win (6-3) tossing six innings while allowing two runs on four hits. Ray Hanson suffered the loss (2-1) lasting three innings while surrendering seven runs on nine hits. Jon Hunton notched the save (26) pitching the final inning.
