The New York Red Bulls quickly turned that number one spot in the allocation order into former MLS and Seton Hall star Sacha Kljestan. The Red Bulls were able to maneuver their way to the top of the order with their trade earlier this week then agreed on a fee with Belgian club Anderlecht for the rights of the 29 year old.

Kljestan, who scored 15 goals in 114 appearances for Chivas USA and 18 goals in 131 appearances with Anderlecht returns to the state where he had some of his best success. In three years as a member of the Seton Hall Pirates he was a two time All-American, went to three NCAA Tournaments, and was a runner up in the 2004 Big East Championship.

Kljestan doesn’t shy away from success. He won three straight league titles with Anderlecht and played in Europe’s greatest club competition, the UEFA Champions League. He was part of the 2009 United States Confederation Cup team that fell in the Final to Brazil, and has 46 caps for the Men’s National Team.  Kljestan was also runner up for MLS rookie of the year in 2006.

With this move the Red Bulls have acquired someone with a lot of talent, a nose for creating and scoring goals, and someone who will not back down from the big moment. They also have someone with significant experience in the MLS, in Europe, and on the national level which is quite a resume that only few can boast.

This Red Bulls team has re-tooled big time in the off-season and looks ready to make another major push for the MLS Cup next season.
