HockeyRobin Lehner wins Masterton Trophy by Chris Passarelli June 19, 2019 Robin Lehner, after overcoming mental health and addiction, was chosen as the recipient for this year’s Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The Masterton Trophy is awarded to the NHL player who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey”.Lehner was a favorite to win the award and although he finished third for the Vezina Trophy, this one meant more to him. His speech was rousing and he ended it with a very powerful message about mental health. To quote him, “I’m not ashamed to say I’m mentally ill, but that doesn’t mean I’m mentally weak”.Lehner’s powerful message is below;"I'm not ashamed to say I'm mentally ill." – @RobinLehner #EndTheStigma pic.twitter.com/1F9FEo12mz— NHL on NBC (@NHLonNBCSports) June 20, 2019 Post Views: 844The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest PostsChris PassarelliFootball Editor - Hockey Editor - New York Islanders Lead Writer - New York Lizards Lead Writer - UConn Football Lead WriterLatest posts by Chris Passarelli (see all) NFL Network to Premiere ‘The Top 100 Players of 2020’ on July 26 - July 22, 2020 The ‘Toilet Bowl’ may be coming to Western New York - July 16, 2020 Bigger is Better; SoFi Stadium Completes Largest Videoboard in Sports - July 1, 2020 Smoltz, Vrabel and Brown talk American Century Championship and Everything in Between - June 30, 2020 Related TopicsNew York IslandersRobin Lehner Click to comment You must be logged in to post a comment Login Leave a Reply Cancel replyYou must be logged in to post a comment.Newsletter SubscriptionCan't Miss Posts!
