Robin Lehner wins Masterton Trophy

Robin Lehner, after overcoming mental health and addiction, was chosen as the recipient for this year’s Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.  The Masterton Trophy is awarded to the NHL player who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey”.

Lehner was a favorite to win the award and although he finished third for the Vezina Trophy, this one meant more to him.  His speech was rousing and he ended it with a very powerful message about mental health.  To quote him, “I’m not ashamed to say I’m mentally ill, but that doesn’t mean I’m mentally weak”.
