Staten Island Yankees power past Connecticut 10-7

The Staten Island Yankees offense was clicking on all cylinders, as they defeated Connecticut 10-7. The Yankees had 10 hits, six of them which came from Nick Solak and Dalton Blaser.

Connecticut started the game off with a 1st inning run. The Yankees would counter with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the 1st. Nick Solak would start the inning off with a double. Two Yankee hitters would walk, loading the bases with two outs. Kendall Coleman would then single, scoring three runs on and allowing Coleman to go to 3rd base on the error by the catcher.

The Yankees would add two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the 2nd to go up 5-1. Connecticut would find themselves down 6-1, until the top of the 5th when they would tack on three runs. It would be Austin Athman’s 2nd double of the game that would score those three runs, cutting the deficit to two runs. The Yankees would add two crucial runs the next two innings to increase the lead 8-4.

Connecticut would make things interesting in the top of the 8th as Josh Lester hit a 3-run home run to trim the lead 8-7. However, as the S.I. Yankees did all game, they would counter with two runs of their own in the bottom half to go up 10-7. That would be the final score as Kamplain got Connecticut to go down in order, receiving his 4th save of the season.

Chad Martin would receive his 3rd win of the season. He allowed four runs over six innings and struck out seven Connecticut batters. He is now 3-0 on the season, with a 2.60 era.

With the win last night, the Baby Bombers increased their lead to 2.5 games over Connecticut for the Wild Card Lead. They also gained a game on Hudson Valley, as the Renegades saw their 12 game winning streak get snapped. They still trail 4.5 games to Hudson Valley. With only 7 games left to go on the season, The S.I. Yankees will need to continue to play solid baseball.

The Yankees ace, Simon De La Rosa will be on the mound. He is 6-3 on the year with a 2.98 ERA.
