MMA The rematch is coming: Tyron Woodley v. Stephen Thompson II reportedly set for UFC 209 by Daniel Yanofsky January 9, 2017 At UFC 205 in New York, Tyron Woodley and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson put on a classic. The official “Fight of the Night” for the UFC Welterweight Title was praised by fighters and fans alike. The result of the fight was controversial, as it ended in a majority draw after Woodley was originally announced the winner (the UFC pulled a Steve Harvey). The question on everyone’s mind after was simple: When’s the rematch? After waiting patiently, we finally got our answer. According to FOX Sports, Woodley (16-3-1) will defend his title against Thompson (13-1-1) at UFC 209. The event will be held on March 4th at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Other fights on the card include Alistair Overeem/Mark Hunt and a possible Khabib Nurmagomedov/Tony Ferguson bout. Both fighters have been adamant about facing each other once again, especially Thompson. He posted a photo of a contract on Twitter, daring Woodley to sign it. After throwing jabs at one another on Twitter this past week, Woodley broke the news today on his podcast, “The Morning Wood”. For those who want an official confirmation, Dana White announced that the fight is definitely happening. httpss://twitter.com/MMAjunkieJohn/status/818581811819220992 The two didn’t wait to promote the fight. Woodley went straight to the point in regards to the rematch on his show: “…You need to be careful what you ask for. “Wonderboy” you want it – come get it. You want a fight, you want to get done worse than you did the first time? He’s going to get in the octagon and he’s going to be in for a rude awakening because if he thought that was something the last time, I’m going all the way up.” Thompson on the other hand is ready to prove something after stating he wasn’t 100% at UFC 205. He believes with enough rest he can go toe to toe with the champ like he did in New York, but better. Speaking to Fox Sports, he stated: “I know for a fact I wasn’t at my best…He hit me with two big shots that put dudes to sleep and he couldn’t do it with me. He tried to finish me with the guillotine and couldn’t do it…So that give me all the confidence in the world. I’ve got him figured out.” Both are looking to prove something, and if the sequel is as good as the original, we could be in for quite a show. Maybe this time we will have a definitive winner. Get ready folks, a war is on the horizon. Post Views: 1,664 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Daniel Yanofsky Baseball Editor, Misc. Sports Editor.
