Baseball Thunder Struggling as All-Star Break Approaches by Staff Post June 24, 2011 The Trenton Thunder are fast approaching the All-Star break on July 10th . The Thunder are currently on the longest road trip of the year and not doing well. Trenton is currently three games back of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The Thunder who were in first place before embarking on this road trip have lost seven of the last ten games reverting back to the early season woes of good pitching but lousy hitting or good hitting and lousy hitting especially on the road where the Thunder is (16-20) and at home where they are(25-11). A partial reason for the teams inconsistency is the New York Yankees the injury situation in Yankee stadium has created ripples throughout the minor leagues as players are shuttling back and forth between Scranton, Trenton and Tampa Bay. Another reason is it seems that the team always has someone on the Disabled List again contributing to a unstable lineup day in and day out. After a slow start to the season the lineup and injuries were stabilized the Thunder played outstanding baseball getting good pitching the team’s strength and timely hitting and rose to first place in rapid fashion. But this road trip the players start to rollin and out and the pitching started faltering and the timely hitting disappeared combined to drop the Thunder to second place 3 games behind the leader. A big boost to the club could be the upcoming rehabs of Derrick Jeter and Phil Hughes giving the team an impetus to pick up their play especially at home possibly pushing the team back into first place of the Eastern Division. The Thunder return home on June 27th and start a three game set against the first place New Hampshire Fisher Cats, They Follow with a three game set against the Altoona Curve. Austin Romine was selected to play in the July 19th All-Star game, RHP Alan Horne was activated from the Disabled List. LHP Wilkins Arias was placed on the 7 Day Disabled List, The moves leave the Thunder one player below the Maximium roster size of 24 players. Yankees Pitcher Phil Hughes will pitch for the Thunder today against the New Britain Rock Cats and should be on the hill at home on July 29th . No date set for Yankee Captain Derek Jeter.
