Top 2015 Draft Pick, Chad Martin, Makes First Start for Staten Island, Throws Six Scoreless Innings

The S.I. Yankees and Auburn Double Days played a fantastic game yesterday, as the game was scoreless up until the bottom of the 8th inning.
Chad Martin, a 30th round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft  got the call for his first start of the year. He did not disappoint as he pitched six scoreless innings, including three strikeouts. He did not get the win due to no run support, however, he showed how he can be a solid pitcher for this organization going forward. Claudio Custodio pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief and would get the win, his second of the year.
The Yankees had plenty of chances to blow the game wide open. In the bottom of the 5th, the Yankees loaded the bases with only one out, however, Carlos Vidal would line out and Nick Solak would strike out to end the inning. They finally took advantage of blown opportunities in the bottom of the 8th, as they sent 8 batters to the plate and brought two runs home.
They started the inning with three straight singles by Eduardo Navas, Carlos Vidal, and Nick Solak. A passed ball also allowed  Yankees to score their second run.
Auburn made things interesting in the 9th after Sheldon Nuese doubled to bring the tying run up to the plate. Luckily, Custodio would get Nick Banks to ground out to end the game. Timely hitting by the Baby Bombers would make all the difference in this one.
The Yankees are now 24-19 on the year, and still trail Hudson Valley by one game for the division lead. They will face Williamsport next for a 3 game set. Williamsport is 27-17 on the year and is 7-3 in their last 10 games. Game time is set for7:05 PM
