Update On The Darian Dailey Situation

Sunday, Rutgers redshirt freshman Darian Dailey, along with another male, Trazelle Johnson, were charged with armed robbery in Sarasota, Fla.

In a warrant and report released by the police, Dan Duggan of NJ Advance Media and NJ.com wrote, “Dailey, who was driving a black Dodge registered to his mother, and Johnson, the passenger, stopped the car directly in front of an 18-year-old who was riding his bicycle home from work just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, according to the warrant. Police said Johnson got out of the car with his face covered by a cloth and pointed what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun at the victim and asked, ‘What you got?'”

It is now known that the gun in the car which was found thanks to the victim writing down the license plate number that the gun was a black pellet gun without the red tip to help determine whether it is a real or fake weapon.

Duggan indicated the police said $20 was stolen and the victim identified Dailey as the driver of the car according to the warrant.

Dailey was booked at the Manatee County jail and posted bail and was released on Monday.

Head coach Kyle Flood gave out a short statement on Sunday after initial word came out about the incident saying, “We are aware of the situation and are gathering facts. Once those facts are gathered, we will take the appropriate action.”

Dailey was scheduled to return to campus yesterday for the summer conditioning program.
