USA World Cup Short Track Speedskating Rosters Announced

Several local skaters highlighted the US Speedskating Fall World Cup rosters following a weekend of qualifiers at the Utah Olympic Oval.

In the men’s field, 21-year-old  John-Henry Kreuger (Pittsburgh, PA) skated to strong finishes across the board, earning silver in the 500m and 1500m, while taking home third in the 1000m. He played second fiddle to three-time Olympic medalist and 500m world record holder J.R. Celski, who won each race, and every single heat that he participated in.

Joining Kreuger and Celski will be Keith Carroll Jr. (Honey Brook, PA) after he finished second in the 1000m, while also placing fifth in the 1500m. Adam Callister, Thomas Hong, and Ryan Pivirotto will join them on the squad.

On the women’s side, 22-year-old Kimi Goetz (Flemington, NJ) put together an impressive weekend, finishing second in each of the three races, earning her the most overall points in the field. She had a gold locked up in the 1500m, however in the last second, she was passed by Katherine Reutter, who was participating in her first race since she retired in 2013.

Kristen Santos (Fairfield, Conn) and Katy Ralston (Saratoga Springs, NY) consistently paced right behind Goetz. Santos finished third in each of the three races, while Ralston finished fourth in the 500m and 1500m. Joining them on the team will be Jessica Kooreman and April Shin.

More than 50 skaters entered the qualifiers. All 12 members selected to the team have previous experience on the international stage, and the United States is hoping for a rebound after totaling zero medals on the World Cup stage last year. The team will participate for World Cup races Nov. 4-6 in Calgary, and then Nov. 11-13 in Utah.
