It has been been a long time coming, but WWE has finally announced a women’s tournament. The highly anticipated event will arrive this summer. You can watch it exclusively on the WWE Network. Triple H and champion’s Asuka, Alexa Bliss and Bayley made the announcement at WWE’s business partner summit in Orlando today. httpss://twitter.com/TripleH/status/848207928792412162?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pwmania.com%2Fwwe-announces-womens-tournament-for-this-summer No further information has been provided regarding the tournament, except that 32 women from around the world will be involved. There have been plans for this event for quite some time, but it always seemed to get pushed back. WWE had their reasons, testing the field with the Cruiserweight Classic and the United Kingdom Championship Tournament. In a press release by WWE, SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss was honored to be a part of the announcement. She stated:

“I speak on behalf of all of us, not just the champions standing before you today, but the entire Women’s division. It’s truly an honor to be part of another significant movement in WWE history.”

The CWC and the United Kingdom Championship Tournament received critical acclaim so this was a no-brainer. With women’s wrestling being as popular as ever, WWE has taken full advantage. The only question is who will be involved? We could see stars like Tessa Blanchard, Shimmer’s Madison Eagles or recently signed Kairi Hojo. Stars from the past could even join, attempting a comeback. That worked well for THE Brian Kendrick this past summer. The possibilities are endless. What will the prize for the winner be? Will they receive a championship opportunity, or their own title? The intrigue is already starting to grow. We will provide more information as it comes out. At first a dream, a women’s tournament is finally a reality. It truly is an exciting time to be a wrestling fan.
