Adam Warren (Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports)

Right-handed pitcher Adam Warren was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday afternoon with lower back spasms. He is required to rest for the next two weeks.

“We were hoping we’d get back him back in Baltimore, so yes, I am (concerned),” Joe Girardi said after the Yankees game against the Orioles was postponed. The game will be made up on Thursday afternoon at 1:35 p.m.

Warren is eligible to return September 12th. The Yankees will take some extra time before reevaluating him and his well being. This in’t the first time Warren has gone on the DL this season. He experienced right shoulder inflammation in mid-June.

“You would think as a reliever in two weeks, if he’s physically OK we could get him back at some point,” Girardi said. “But that’s if he’s ok after two weeks.”

The 30-year old was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 36th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He was then drafted by the New York Yankees in the 4th round a year later. This year, he’s developed a 2.40 ERA in 45 games. He’s also allowed 35 hits, 19 runs and four home runs.
