College TCNJ Offense Held Down by SUNY Cortlan by Fatima Butler September 15, 2019 Ewing Township, NJ – On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, The College of New Jersey Lions took a loss to SUNY Cortland with the final score being 31-7. Cortland Red Dragons are now at a 2-0 standpoint for the 2019 football season, while TCNJ Lions trail 0-2 for this season so far. QB Brett Segala of Cortland passed to WR Cole Burgess which lead to the Red Dragons to be on the board first with a 55 yard touchdown. Due to a late hit after a complete pass from Andrew Donoghue of an on going of nine yards to Joe Ciempola, the score is now tied up between the Lions and Red Dragons. The Lions was able to score a touchdown when QB Donoghue made a complete pass to WR Vinny Guckin in the end zone. A 10-7 lead was set for the Red Dragons after a field goal of 33 yards on the ensuing possession was converted. With just a little bit over three minutes left in the half, QB Donoghue completed a pass to WR Dave Jackhera for 17 yards just inside Cortland’s territory. That didn’t stop the defense for Cortland to take advantage of getting the ball back to eventually take lead by 17-7 at the end of the half. During the third quarter, Segala lead Cortland with a touchdown pass to up the score to 24-7 while completing another touchdown pass with less than 10 minutes left on the clock. Making the score 31-7. Defensive back Xavier Santos made an interception towards the end of the third quarter. Santos picked up a pass from Sagala and rushed it all the way to Cortland’s 16 yard line. Pacini lead with 58 yards in rushing attacks and 14 carries, with an added reception for 15 yards. Clevenger caught a total of 7 passes for 69 yards, and Jachera completed 8 grabs for 66 yards. Bryant Sanchez lead the lions with a total of 7 tackles. Jared Lyles and Michael Siwak both made 5 tackles and Lyles also registered a sack for 11 yards. Be on the lookout as the Lions take on St. John Fisher in NY Saturday September 21, 2019.
