MMA UFC 195 Report: Robbie Lawler Defeats Carlos Condit in a Fight to Remember by Daniel Yanofsky January 3, 2016 Many have stated that the lightweight division of the UFC might be one of the most competitive divisions in the company. That statement was deemed true when Georges St-Pierre dominated the competition as champion. From April 19, 2008 until November 16, 2013, St-Pierre successfully defended the title with authority never seen before. When he vacated the title in December of 2013, there were skeptics saying whether the division would ever be the same. This past Saturday at UFC 195 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit both walked through hell to light up the lightweight division once again. In five grueling rounds, Lawler successfully defended his Lightweight Title against Condit by split decision to start the year off for the UFC. httpss://twitter.com/ufc/status/683570556835205121 httpss://twitter.com/JRsBBQ/status/683519672004677632 Each round these warriors fought in was highly contested. By the fifth round, they put it all on the line. Before time expired, Condit and Lawler would just pound away at one another, going toe to toe, blow to blow. The fifth round was a site to behold, with both fighters looking to prove how dominant they are. Social media was buzzing with excitement after that clash of titans, and for good reason. The scorecard after was 48-47 (Condit), 48-47 (Lawler), 48-47 (Lawler), Robbie Lawler by split decision. There were many fans, fighters and others who were disappointed with the scores by the judges, calling it controversial. However, the ending did not change the fact that they were seeing something special. A potential fight of the year was seen, just two days into the New Year. httpss://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/status/683520155817775104 The UFC struck gold to start the year, and aren’t looking to slow down. Their next show, UFC 196, features a rematch between UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez. With UFC 200 around the corner later this year, it looks like a dominant year for the UFC. I for one cannot wait.
