Baseball BlueClaws Win Sloppy Game With Delmarva by Staff Post June 11, 2016 The Lakewood BlueClaws won for the fourth time in their last five games, downing the host Delmarva (Md.) Shorebirds 6-3 Friday night at Perdue Stadium. The game ended with Delmarva’s Cedric Mullins being doubled off second base after Carlos Duran made a diving catch in center field of a line drive off the bat of Ryan Mountcastle. Duran got up and threw to second to end the game, giving Jake Waguespack his third save of the season. Down 1-0, Lakewood, the Philadelphia Phillies’ low Class A affiliate in the South Atlantic League, scored three runs in the fourth. Deivi Grullon tied the game with an RBI double. Duran lofted a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead and the third run scored on an error on second baseman Jack Graham. Lakewood pushed its lead to 5-1 in the fifth as one run scored on a wild pitch and Damek Tomscha hit a sacrifice fly. Lakewood starter Drew Anderson (1-1) allowed two runs (both unearned) through five innings. He struck out seven. It was his first win since 2014; the win came in his fourth start since returning from the disabled list. Skylar Hunter relieved Anderson and allowed one run in the sixth on a wild pitch. With two out and two on in the seventh, Lakewood’s Zach Morris entered and struck out Alex Murphy. Lakewood’s Emmanuel Marrero singled home an eighth-inning run for a 6-3 lead. The teams combined for four errors and three passed balls. Only one earned run was charged to each pitching staff. Lakewood is 24-36. Delmarva, a Baltimore Orioles farm club, is 33-26. The series continues Saturday at 6:35 when Lakewood righty Jose Taveras (2-4) opposes lefty Reid Love (3-3).
