Princeton Defense Forces Five Turnovers in Win Over Georgetown

With its out-of-conference schedule behind them, Princeton football resumes its focus on the Ivy League next Saturday.

Junior John Lovett rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another and the Princeton defense registered five turnovers to lead the Tigers to a 31-17 victory over Georgetown at Cooper Field in Washington, D.C. Saturday.

Princeton (3-1, 1-0 Ivy) has won two straight games. Georgetown fell to 3-2.

Lovett had first-quarter scoring runs of one and five yards and threw a 3-yard TD pass to sophomore tight end Graham Adomitis, his first collegiate catch, with 12:38 left in the second quarter to propel the Tigers to a 21-14 halftime lead.

Lovett added a 1-yard TD run with 12:09 remaining in the third quarter to extend the Tigers’ lead to 28-14.

Freshman kicker Tavish Rice kicked a 22-yard field goal, the first of his career, with 9:12 left in the third quarter to complete the Tigers’ scoring on the day, extending its lead to 31-14.

Sophomore running back Charlie Volker rushed for a career-best 88 yards and Lovett had 13 carries for 48 yards and completed 6 of 10 passes for 13 yards.

Senior quarterback Chad Kanoff completed 18 of 27 passes for 168 yards and one interception and sophomore wide receiver Jesper Horsted had three receptions for 55 yards

Princeton’s defense recovered four fumbles in the game and senior linebacker Luke Catarius added an interception as the Tigers held the Hoyas’ offense to 188 total yards.

14 different Princeton players had two tackles or more.

This week, Princeton returns home for a two-game home stand as it hosts Brown on Saturday with a scheduled kickoff at 3 p.m. at Powers Field.

Brown (1-3) fell to Stetson at home, 31-21, on Saturday as Stetson came back to score the game’s final 17 points to notch the win.
