Are You Kidding Me? Rutgers to Modify Scarlet Knight Mascot

The Rutgers University Student Assembly (RUSA) recently passed a bill to increase gender and ethnic diversity within the University by transforming the school’s mascot.

Student assembly parliamentarian Emmet Brennan said the Scarlet Knight mascot could change itself or another option could be adding other mascots of different races and backgrounds (Latino, black, Asian, female, third gender).

He says he noticed the current mascot, along with all the others were predominantly white.

Are you kidding me? Who cares? Are people that sensitive? It is just a mascot. A mascot is there for the fans. It is there for the kids to take pictures with. It is there to show school pride. Do kids care what color a mascot is? No.

Within recent years, St. John’s University changed from the Redmen to the Red Storm. Syracuse went from the Orangemen to just simply, the Orange.

My high school – Piscataway High School, isn’t allowed to play the “Tomahawk Chop” song, even though Florida State, the Atlanta Braves, and other high school’s Piscataway plays against can play the song. How is that right? We are the Chiefs! We can’t even have our old awesome chief mascot anymore.

Talk about a bunch of nonsense.

I see no reason why Rutgers should change or add new versions of the mascot. Just this past summer, the Scarlet Knight had a makeover for the addition into the Big Ten Conference. Are you saying you want another change?

Who would pay for the other mascots? Which mascot would be the main one?

It is just a mascot. Rutgers needs to keep the tradition. It is not possible to have a mascot representing every nationality.

Just saying..
