Baseball Brooklyn Cyclones top Staten Island for First Win of Season by Stefany Romero June 17, 2018 It was a splendid night in Brooklyn Saturday night as the Cyclones took on the Staten Island Yankees for their second game of the season in front of a sellout crowd of 7,702 fans at MCU Park. The Cyclones came out victorious, contrary to the previous night when the Cyclones fell to Staten Island by the score of 3-1. Saturday night, Brian Campusano had an exceptional night as he turned in six no-hit innings. The Cyclones showed a great defense, and in his first professional at-bat, Brooklyn native Manny Rodriguez lined an RBI single into left field that scored the first run for the Cyclones in the 2nd inning. Momentum rose for the Cyclones as Carlos Sanchez hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th, making the score 2-0. The Yankees would not get the opportunity to even out the score as the Cyclones had all bases loaded in the 5th inning and Kendall Coleman hit a grand slam, making the score 6-0. “I always knew how the wind blew in here, it’s been a known thing in the couple of years that I’ve played here,” Kendall Coleman explained in a post game interview when discussing how he got the extra particular lift for his grand slam. “I wasn’t trying to necessarily lift the ball but I was trying to get the ball into the outfield, no matter how I did it, I was just trying to hit it hard and put it in the air.” Coleman’s grand slam was the first home run of the season for the Cyclones. Coleman also continues this season as the first player in New York-Penn League history to suit up for both the Cyclones and the Staten Island Yankees. The Cyclones had one more run and concluded the game with a score of 7-0. Unfortunately, Saturday night, catcher Uriarte left the game after injuring his leg during his first at-bat and David Thompson continued his minor league rehab assignment with Brooklyn, finishing 0-4. The Cyclones face the Yankees once again, Sunday at 1:30pm.
