Bump & Run With KT: Giants, Jets Win, Moorehead Goes to PSU, and more.

We have hit the stretch run of the NFL season and college football is moving into the lesser bowl season this weekend. Football season is still in high gear so let’s not waste anymore time…let’s go!

Giants Finally Hold On To A Lead Late

Yes it was the Miami Dolphins and yes they are awful but the Giants pulled out a 31-24 win on Monday night to stay tied for first in the NFC East. Eli Manning threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns while obtaining a 151.5 passer rating. Odell Beckham, Jr. had 166 yards and two touchdowns while the Giant defense took advantage of a lackluster Dolphin offensive line to put pressure on Ryan Tannehill all night.

The story of the game was more about the defense holding strong after taking the lead in the fourth quarter. The Dolphins had two possessions late in the game and the much maligned Giants secondary was able to hold on and win the game for New York. With this performance, the defense may have the confidence builder they needed going into their match-up against the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The Jets Dominate The Titans

The New York Jets moved to 8-5 after a 30-8 victory over the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Brandon Marshall had over 100 yards receiving once again and Chris Ivory ran for 101 yards en route to the Jets’ most complete win of the season. At this point of the season, the Jets hold their playoff future in their hands as they are firmly entrenched as one of two wild card teams in the AFC.

The Jets defense made Marcus Mariota look like a confused rookie throughout the game as they Titans had no answers to the Jet pass rush. The fearsome defense had five sacks on Tennessee’s quarterback including three alone coming from Muhammad Wilkerson, who made a strong case for his big money contract at the end of the season. The defense for the Jets was the major plus for the team going into the season but if the offense and Ryan Fitzpatrick continues to play the way they have, the New York Jets could be a dangerous team when we get to playoff time.

Penn State Hires Fordham Head Coach As New OC

Earlier in the football season I mentioned Fordham as one of the local schools to keep an eye on. The Rams were led by head coach Joe Moorhead, who developed one of the most explosive offenses not just in FCS football but in all of college football. On Saturday, Moorhead was hired to be Penn State’s new offensive coordinator.

Quarterback Christian Hackenberg will most likely declare for the NFL Draft after the season (and do you blame him, you could only get hit so many times) but Moorhead will drastically change the Nittany Lion offense. Penn State ranked 106th in total offense and rushing and worst yet 126th in third down effiency. With stud running back Saquon Barkley and new QB Jake Zembiec, Moorhead has an empty canvas to paint a masterpiece on.

Around The Country

Alabama’s Derrick Henry won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday but the margin of his win was ridiculous. Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey won only one of six regions (Far West) and lost to Henry by 293 votes. The SEC continues to have this mythical status in college football as the only conference that matters even though the entire conference was hot garbage this year. McCaffrey was hurt by voters who didn’t bother watching him and voters who just assumed that Henry was the better player.

I have always been enthralled by the Army-Navy game and not just this year’s version. Seeing those young men play, not for conference championships or in mindless bowl games, but for pride of their specific service academies is refreshing. No trash talking or bad behavior, just guys playing football and enjoying it. While Navy won on Saturday, there were no losers on that field on Saturday evening.

Damontre Moore may be the dumbest NFL player I have ever seen. So you start BS with your teammate because he got a pair of free Beats headphones? All the while you are making a base salary of $450,000 where you could just go out and get a pair of headphones. I’m glad him and his unnecessary late hit penalties are gone from the Giants. What a waste.
