Could It Be? Holloway-Pettis for Interim-Featherweight Belt? McGregor to Vacate Belt to Aldo?

If this goes as reported, I’m sure this is not the way that Aldo wanted to get his championship belt back.

Earlier Friday it was announced that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier was out of his UFC 206 main event title bout against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson due to injury. With the December 10th pay-per-view already getting swallowed by the stacked UFC 205 and UFC 207 cards surrounding it, losing its only championship match up just 15 days out is probably the worst thing that could of happened.

Or is it?

Ariel Helwani explained on Twitter Friday evening the possibility of 206’s co-main event between featherweights Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis being upgraded to a five-round main event for the interim featherweight belt. If that gets confirmed, the predicted proceeding would be stripping two-division champion Conor McGregor of his 145-pound gold and naming current-interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo, as the featherweight champion.
