Alleged Drew McIntyre-Tyson Fury WWE Pay-Per-View Match Halted

Inside the Ropes reports that a WWE Title match between WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and two-time heavyweight world boxing champion Tyson Fury was in the works.

However, the match was put on hold due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Sources tell Inside the Ropes that “WWE was keen to to capitalize on McIntyre becoming the first-ever British world champion in the company and the hunger of the UK fanbase for a big-time pay-per-view.”

While keeping hush on the exact match in question, McIntyre was quoted earlier this year speaking to talkSPORT about the coronavirus health crisis’ detrimental effect on “something special in the UK.”

“This situation has affected a lot of plans, let’s just say things were looking positive and when things are looking a little bit more normal, I’ll be pushing once again, because, we’re on the right path and it’s not a case of if it will happen, it’s when it will happen. We’ve just got to roll with the punches right now and eventually we will get that UK PPV we deserve,” he said.

As fans have seen, Drew McIntyre and Fury exchanged continuous banter on Twitter and in media interviews this year, furthering their feud. On September 8, Fury challenged McIntyre, tweeting, “Been looking all over Edinburgh for you @DMcIntyreWWE come out and fight the gypsyking #letsgo.”

Drew McIntyre responded to Fury tweeting, “1. I’m from Ayr 2. There’s a pandemic. The moment I can come home for my World Title tour we’ll talk in person 3. You’re still a big stiff idiot 4. Stop using filters you weirdo 5. Do you want me to start paying rent? It’s unfair I live in your head for free.”
