Fans Have Fun After NJ Devils Win Over the Canucks

Devils Get 9th Win of the Season

The New Jersey Devils started their 3-game Western Canadian road trip with a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks Wednesday night.  Both teams grinded last night’s game out.  Jimmy Hayes got the only goal against Vancouver’s Jacob Markstrom.  Their second goal came from Drew Stafford with 14 seconds left in the game and an empty net.

The Devils added four more penalties bringing their season total to 61 and putting them into the top of the NHL.  Unlike last season, the Devils are strong on the penalty kill.  So much so they almost had another shorthanded goal last night.

Wednesday’s win took the Devils to 9-2-0, making this season their best start in franchise history.  They are back on top of the Metropolitan Division and are fourth in the NHL.

Next up for the Devils is Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.  If the Devils can win or stay competitive with this team it will prove once and for all that they are one of the teams to watch this season.  Keeping in mind that the NJ Devils did beat the Tampa Bay Lighting already this year and they are currently first in the NHL.

Boyle in, Johansson Out

Last night, Brain Boyle made his return to the ice in his first game for the Devils.  This was the 6’6” offensive player’s first game since being diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia.  The leukemia was found during his routine physical for the Devils before training camp.  He took no time getting into the mix, winning 2/3 of his faceoffs and blocking a shot late in the game to help the Corey Schneider maintain the shutout against the Canucks.

Marcus Johansson left the game within the first minute after going head first into the boards.  Johansson got tangled up going after the puck with Canucks Brock Boeser.  He did skate off on his own, but appeared shaken.  He did not return to the game. Nothing further has been said about whether he will be cleared for Friday’s game.

Hockey is Fun for All

NHL teams are notorious for having the most fun in professional sports.  NHL teams use Twitter regularly to troll each other and their fans (remember when the Devils declared they were not fashion designers).  After last nights shutout win against the Canucks, a Devils fan decided to use Wikipedia as his pranking medium.  Although it has since been changed, Corey Schneider had a change of occupation last night.  Apparently, he hung up his goalie pads to become the owner of the Vancouver Canucks.  Get it…cause he owned them.
